Hamilton General Burn Unit Fundraiser
The Hamilton General Hospital's Burn Unit is one of two in Ontario. Burns are one of the most devastating forms of trauma. It is essential for patients with serious burns to have immediate and specialized, expert care in order to minimize the severity of injury.
A new shower/hydrotherapy room will be a valuable addition to the Burn Unit and ensure the Burn Unit continues to offer the best possible burn care to all burn patients in a more accessible and comfortable environment than is the current case. The Burn Unit shower system is estimated to cost $75,000.
Hydrotherapy treatments by showering or bathing offer many benefits to facilitate burn wound healing. Cleaning the burn wound surface of debris, decreasing the number of microorganisms on the skin, facilitating physical therapy and comfort, enhancing psychological well-being of the patient ~ all these are benefits of hydrotherapy.
