What is a Blue Moon?
So I was curious to find out what exactly was meant by this term "blue moon". Was the moon going to be blue this evening, was the sky going to be lit up with blue in the regular black night sky? Well I did some digging and this is what I found out.
The term "blue moon" doesn't actually refer to the color of the moon or sky in any way. Once upon a time, it was believed that "a Blue Moon is when there are 4 Full Moons in a season rather than the usual 3. The Blue moon is the 3rd full moon out of the 4th". Now it is defined as "when there are 2 full moons in one month". I guess full moons are only supposed to occur every 29 days or so and if there is one at the very beginning there could be another at the end, this being the 'blue moon'.
Quite honestly I would have rather looked up at the sky this evening and seen something spectacular like a big blue-glowing moon or bright lights in the sky but I guess this isn't going to be the case….well at least not tonight anyways!
